Prof. Eugenio Santiago-Valentín faculty at Department of Biology, University of Puerto Rico (Río Piedras) and Curator of the Herbarium of the Botanic Garden of San Juan de Puerto Rico performed a research and academic visit to Florida International University (FIU) and Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden (February 10-17). The visit was sponsored by the University of Puerto Rico and the Garden made its guest-apartment available to Prof. Santiago-Valentín. During his stay with us, Prof. Santiago-Valentín delivered a talk to the the 12th Conference on Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (14-15 February, 2019) organized by that Cuban Research Institute (CRI) of FIU. Furthermore he has meeting with three graduate students who are hosted in the Garden: Andrew Reeve (from Department of Biology, University of Miami, advisor Prof. Barbara Whitlock); and Nichole Tiernan and Jonathan Flickinger (from Department of Biological Sciences, FIU, advisor Prof. Javier Francisco-Ortega). In addition during this visit Prof. Santiago-Valentín and Prof. Javier Francisco-Ortega conducted research pertinent to botanical history of Puerto Rico.
