Lead by FIU-Fairchild graduate student Jonathan Flickinger a workshop of Caribbean botany targeting teachers from the public schools of Miami took place on November 5th. A total of 11 teachers participated in this educational activity that included lectures on Caribbean environments and plant systematics as well as a hands-on activity on plant identification. A tour focusing on the Caribbean Islands collections of the Garden was also part of this workshop. FIU-Fairchild faculty Dr. Javier Francisco-Ortega also participated in this workshop. This event was part of an educational project funded by the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens to support Jonathan's graduate research with Cuban plants.
