Biologists, land managers, students, and members of the general public participated in the International Tropical Botany and Pine Rockland Conference, October 23-28, 2016, in Miami, Florida, USA. This conference consisted of two days of scientific presentations at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, as well as pre- and post-conference field trips to visit pine rocklands throughout South Florida. Over 100 participants joined this initiative that was organized by Hong Liu [from the International Center for Tropical Biology (FIU and National Tropical Botanic Garden)] and Jennifer Posley (Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden). The conference also had a significant presence of botanists from Hainan University (China). Prof. Suzanne Koptur from FIU (Department of Biological Sciences) was the key-note speaker.
