Coral Gables, FL, July 24, 2014 – Journey through the marvelous scenery of the tropics with a new book release that birders, photographers, and nature enthusiasts alike are sure to enjoy. Written by Dr. James A. Kushlan with photography by Kirsten Hines, Birds of Fairchild contains more than 200 pages of stunning images that highlight birds and the beautiful habitats they live in at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, FL. Turn the pages and encounter colorful land birds and water birds that make their home in Fairchild’s 83 acres of tropical and subtropical landscapes: buntings, egrets, herons, anhingas and more.

Birds of Fairchild is published by Acclaim Press and will hit bookshelves in October 2014, just in time for Fairchild’s Bird Festival, October 4-5. James A. Kushlan established the Bird Conservation Program at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden to aid in biodiversity restoration and to educate visitors on the birds they can find in the garden. Kirsten Hines is a biologist, writer, and photographer who is dedicated to nature travel and conservation. Her photography has been featured in several publications. 


The Bird Festival at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, in partnership with the Tropical Audubon Society, is held from October 2-5 beginning with two days of off-site field trips and continuing with on-site activities. The event features bird walks, a photo contest, plant sales, and lectures by James A. Kushlan Keynote Speakers James Currie and Dr. Cagan Sekercioglu.
