THE FAIRCHILD CHALLENGE RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP GRANT
FROM THE VAUGHN-JORDAN FOUNDATION
Coral Gables, FL, December 18, 2014 – Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has received continued support from the Vaughn-Jordan Foundation to support the James Vaughn Memorial Scholarship. The scholarships are offered to deserving students who participate in The Fairchild Challenge, Fairchild’s award-winning multidisciplinary environmental science competition that reaches more than 125,000 students each year. The scholarship program was established to offer students who are interested in botanical and horticultural science the opportunity to study biology, ecology, or environmental science at Florida International University or the University of Miami.
“Support from the Vaughn-Jordan Foundation will allow us to continue to offer a competitive scholarship program for talented, underserved high school students who participate in The Fairchild Challenge,” said Amy Padolf, Director of Education at Fairchild.
The Vaughn-Jordan Foundation has supported The Fairchild Challenge for the past three years and the new grant will support the program for an additional four years. The Lewis Vaughn Memorial Scholarship is the first scholarship established for high school participants of The Fairchild Challenge. It has been awarded to outstanding students from under-resourced communities who are nominated by their teachers based on academic performance in biological and environmental sciences.
