Started by the American Public Gardens Association, National Public Gardens Day is a national celebration that invites communities to explore the beauty of their local green spaces while raising awareness of the important role public gardens play in promoting conservation, education, and environmental preservation.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will mark this special day with reduced admission - $15 for adults, $11 for seniors 65 and up, and $7 for kids 6-17. We invite everyone to enjoy Fairchild’s 83 acres of lush landscaping, including our Wings of the Tropics butterfly exhibit, Rainforest, Succulent Garden, Palmetum, Edible Garden, and much more. Food is available in the Glasshouse Café and Lakeside Café..
Guided walking tours of the garden last approximately 45 minutes. An early morning bird watching walk begins at the 7:45 a.m. at the Visitor Center. Morning tours begin at the Visitor Center at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Afternoon walking tours begin at Cycad Circle at 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
Free, narrated tram tours last approximately 45 minutes and are offered every hour on the hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. The last tour departs at 3:00 p.m. The tours give an excellent overview of the garden’s history, mission, and plant collections.
At the South Florida Butterfly Garden Plaza
From 11:30a.m. – 2:30 p.m., stop by the outdoor Butterfly Garden to learn how to transform your backyard into a sustainable garden by using the right plant in the right place, selecting the ones who attract butterflies and hummingbirds, and also by learning how to conserve water.
Wings of the Tropics
From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm, walk through the beautifully landscaped Wings of the Tropics exhibit in the Clinton Family Conservatory and marvel at the numerous exotic butterflies fluttering throughout. Visitors can look into the Butterfly Metamorphosis Lab to see these tropical butterflies emerge from their chrysalises.
“Artists in Bloom” Exhibition and Sale
On sale in the Garden House are more than 100 original oil and acrylic paintings, watercolors, and botanical illustrations created by Fairchild art instructors and students. Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and these lovely pieces make perfect gifts.
