Instructor: Bruce Iverson

Fairchild is pleased to welcome award-winning artist Bruce Iverson this March. His workshops will be relaxing with meditative explorations into learning the nature and techniques of Asian brush painting and calligraphy. Through instructor demonstrations and hands-on projects using the “Four Treasures” – the brush, the ink, the paper and the inkstone, students will explore the time honored techniques of painting in two separate workshops the “Bearded Iris” and the “Grass Orchid” in the traditional hsieh-i (spontaneous) style of brush painting called sumi-e in Japan. During the workshops you will be enlightened with the backdrop of meditative music that will guide you into this three thousand year old art tradition. Both workshops are suitable for all levels of experience. Mr. Iverson will provide all materials (bamboo brushes, ink, inkstone, rice paper and project materials for two paintings) for use in each workshop. Professional brush painting materials will also be available for sale.
