Hermaphroditic Catasetum

Thursday, April 16, 2015

Catasetum orchids produce either male or female flowers. Orchid experts speak of them as dimorphic. Female flowers usually are hooded; male flowers are showier, often with fringed lips. Catasetum schunkei, from Peru, did something unusual for us: it produced one female and three males. Have a look.
