Fairchild Artists in Bloom 11th Annual Gallery Show and Sale

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will host its 11th Annual Fairchild Artists in Bloom Exhibition and Sale on Saturday and Sunday, April 8 and 9 during the Spring Garden Festival.

The Garden House will transform into a gallery featuring more than 150 original works from more than 50 artists and Fairchild art instructors. The exhibition will showcase botanically themed works in watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings, pastels, and illustrations.

Bromeliads: Easy Tropicals for Your South Florida Garden

Learn the basics of growing these attractive, adaptable and colorful epiphytes. While most often seen growing in the ground or on trees, they also do well in pots. Our instructor/grower will take you through propagating pups, choosing the optimum growing medium and containers, watering and misting, providing air circulation and lighting, fertilizing and methods of combating pests. He will also share his experience in growing show plants. Each student will have hands on experience repotting a bromeliad and take home a plant.

SPRING CAMP SESSION Edible Art Camp with Artist Hillary Parker For Ages 8-11

Join naturalist and artist, Hillary Parker and have fun creating and illustrating some delicious edible art. Students will work in a studio and outdoors throughout Fairchild while gathering and sketching edible plants, fruits, and veggies and creating recipes to prepare and sample. On the first day of camp a $10 fee will be collected for art supplies provided by the instructor.

Aroids: Getting to Know These Tropical Beauties

Students who have taken Chris' palm classes will also enjoy his knowledge about this very diverse, largely tropical family, with an emphasis on aroids for the South Florida garden. Identification, propagation, care and landscape use will be covered. After a hands-on activity, students will leave with aroids to include in their own garden. Larger plants will be available for purchase.
