Fairchild is involved in habitat conservation in South Florida and around the world. Fairchild's Conservation team as well as the Fairchild research library, archives and herbarium are located at The Center for Tropical Plant Conservation.
Currently, volunteer opportunities with Fairchild’s Conservation Program are occasional and on an as-needed basis.
A library and museum of dried plant specimens, Fairchild’s herbarium includes the largest and most significant collection of South Florida plants in the world. Volunteers help to preserve and document specimens as well as to enter information into the herbarium database to create a virtual herbarium accessible to researchers and individuals all over the world.
Volunteers are extremely detail-oriented as this work requires precise work with fragile plant specimens. Some volunteer work at the herbarium requires experience with computers and scanners.
We are not currently accepting volunteer applications for the herbarium.
