Volunteer Opportunites

Fairchild volunteers participate in the following garden programs.  Job openings vary according to the season and the needs of the garden.  Click on each section for a more detailed description of volunteer jobs or contact the Volunteer department at 305.667.1651, ext. 3364 for more information.

Education Volunteers

Education volunteers work with Fairchild's Education staff to introduce children of all ages to hands-on, interactive environmental education.  Volunteers participate in three education areas, the Explorer Program, the Discovery Program and the Fairchild Challenge.

Horticulture Volunteers 

Horticulture volunteers work  with the Horticulture team to maintain and beautify Fairchild's 83 acres. Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has a world-class collection of tropical plants with an emphasis on palms, cycads, flowering trees, vines and fruit trees. Fairchild’s collection has local, national and international significance as a resource for research and education as well as providing a major cultural and visitor attraction for South Florida. 

Conservation and Related Program Volunteers

Fairchild is involved in habitat conservation in South Florida and around the world. Conservation scientists as well as the Fairchild research library, archives and the herbarium are located at the Center for Tropical Plant Conservation. Opportunities for Conservation volunteers are occasional and on an as-needed basis.

Visitor Services Volunteers

Visitor Services volunteers are garden ambassadors who welcome guests and introduce Fairchild to visitors as tram drivers, walking tour guides, shuttle drivers and hosts.

Membership Volunteers

Membership volunteers greet Fairchild members and introduce visitors to the benefits of a Fairchild membership including free garden admission, invitations to members-only lectures, Moonlight tours and the annual Members' Day Plant Sale.

Special Event Volunteers

Along with Fairchild’s tremendous education, horticulture and conservation programs, the garden holds popular annual festivals including the Ramble, the Chocolate Festival, the Orchid Festival and the International Mango Festival which introduce thousands of visitors to Fairchild and its mission.  Special Events volunteers help with all aspects of these events.  These volunteer jobs are good for students and busy professionals.
