Volunteers let a few hours of their time blossom into a world of new experiences while working in the beautiful environment of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Fairchild volunteers have been an integral part of the garden’s history and contribute to every aspect of Fairchild operations.
A diverse group of people, volunteers learn new skills, make a positive impact in the community and the world and advance Fairchild’s mission by participating in Fairchild’s education, conservation, horticulture, visitor services, membership, shop and special events programs.
Fairchild volunteers also have access to a wide range of classes and training opportunities. All active Fairchild volunteers who give a minimum of 30 hours of volunteer work a year are part of the Friends of Fairchild organization which hosts lectures, field trips and social activities. Volunteers have also formed the Garden-to-Garden fundraising committee which holds events and raffles to raise money for horticulture and conservation projects at Fairchild and around the world.

Volunteer recruitment events typically take place in September and January though applications are accepted throughout the year. Volunteers are placed in programs based on their schedules, interests and abilities and the current volunteer needs at Fairchild. Volunteer jobs are available on both weekdays and weekends, though the types and numbers of openings vary considerably throughout the year.
The Volunteer Viewsis the informative newsletter for Fairchild volunteers published three times a year.
