Memorial benches are made of teak, and vary in style depending upon the area of the garden in which they are located. The Master Plan for Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden designates only certain areas that are appropriate for placement of benches. The style and location of benches in the garden is chosen by Fairchild Staff and Directors in conjunction with the Master Plan.
The donation level for memorial benches, currently $5,000.00, includes the upkeep of the bench, a 2” x 8” bronze plaque, and periodic movement of the bench due to festivals and severe weather. Memorial benches will remain in place until they become unsafe to use or are aesthetically unacceptable. In our area, due to the hot and humid conditions in Southeast Florida, this is typically 10 years. If and when a bench has to be removed, the donor will be informed. If the donor chooses to replace the bench, a replacement can be provided at the donation level that is stated in the most recent policy of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. A list of available benches is maintained by the garden, and benches are offered on a first come, first served basis.
Every effort is made to accommodate the wishes of our donors. We regret that we may not be able to accept all requests for memorial bench placement and know that you will understand that the number, style and location of benches we select is a major consideration as we strive to keep Fairchild attractive and in agreement with the Master Plan.
