Presented by Dr. Noris Ledesma, Ph.D., Curator of Tropical Fruit at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden:


"Collecting and Development of Mangifera Species [Wild Mangos] in Florida"

Dr. Ledesma will regale audiences with tales of the 30 years' search for the perfect mango and the impact and history of the fruit on Florida. She will described how has been developing a new generation of mangos at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden using interspecific hybrids of Mangifera indica and related species. Mango trees of different species (one each of Mangifera indica and M. spp.) have been caged before bloom initiation and remained caged throughout bloom. The presentation will end with a question and answer session.
