Homeschool Program

Explore and learn about the beauty of the world-renowned Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden with your homeschool group. Guided programs are especially designed for children between the ages of 5-12 and include hands-on lessons where every child can see the world as our botanists do.

 
4 PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED:

Plants from Around the World: October 15, 2012
Participants will explore Fairchild’s Tropical Fruit Pavilion and discover first hand some of the amazing foods from far away places that can be grown here in South Florida. They will be amazed to discover examples of all plant parts that can be eaten, including the roots, stems, flowers and bark! 

The Wonderful World Butterflies: December 17, 2012
Learn about these beautiful insects, as participants investigate the interdependent relationship between butterflies and plants. Become skilled in identifying butterflies, and understand the importance of host and nectar plants and the different stages of the butterfly life cycle.

South Florida Ecosystems: February 11, 2013
Explore some of South Florida’s ecosystems and the biotic and abiotic features that make them unique. Learn how to identify key native plant species in each habitat and participate in hands-on activities that will teach participants about South Florida’s unique tapestry of life. 

Tropical Rainforests: April 15, 2013
Take a journey with us as we explore South Florida’s largest tropical rainforest exhibit. Through hands-on exploration participants will learn about rainforest plant adaptations, the resourcefulness of the rainforest people in mastering the use of these plants, and the diversity of the rainforest.

Fees:
$8 per student, $12 per adult

You must register in advance to guarantee a space for your homeschool group. To register or for more information please call 305.667.1651 ext. 3322 or email education@fairchildgarden.org. Homeschool programs are from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. Please arrive to the Visitor Center at 9:30 am.
