Fairchild’s Homeschool guided programs are especially designed for children between the ages of 5-12 and include hands-on lessons where every child can see the world as Fairchild’s botanists do.

The Wonderful World Butterflies- Learn about these beautiful insects, as participants investigate the interdependent relationship between butterflies and plants. Become skilled in identifying butterflies, understand the importance of host and nectar plants and learn the different stages of the butterfly life cycle. October 21, 2013

Plants from Around the World- Participants will explore Fairchild’s Tropical Fruit Pavilion and discover first hand some of the amazing foods from far away places that can be grown here in South Florida. They will be amazed to discover examples of all plant parts that can be eaten, including the roots, stems, flowers and bark!

South Florida Ecosystems- Explore some of South Florida’s ecosystems and the features that make them unique. Learn how to identify key native plant species in each habitat and participate in hands-on activities that will teach participants about South Florida’s unique tapestry of life. January 13, 2014

Tropical Rainforests - Take a journey with us as we explore South Florida’s largest tropical rainforest exhibit. Through hands-on exploration, participants will learn about rainforest plant adaptations, the resourcefulness of the rainforest people in mastering the use of these plants, and the diversity of the rainforest.

Plant Animal Interactions - Plants and animals have evolved to have special kinds of relationships, often times depending on one another for their survival. Scientists have to use keen observation skills to learn about these relationships. On this journey, we will explore animal tracking, cryptic and warning coloration, mimicry and so much more! March 10, 2014
