Global Challenge

The Global Competition partnership with BGCI

Several years ago, The Fairchild Challenge joined forces with Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) to extend the program’s reach globally. During the past couple of years, The Fairchild Challenge and BGCI in partnership have offered a Global Competition to Fairchild Challenge Satellite Partner sites, BGCI member gardens and Plant Conservation Day partners around the world.

We're excited to announce that The 2012-2013 Global Competition is open to all botanic gardens worldwide, in addition to Fairchild Challenge sites, BGCI members and PCD partners.

For a fifth consecutive year, a Global Competition is being offered by the Fairchild Challenge, in partnership with Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI).  In celebration of the United Nation’s “International Year of Water Cooperation, 2013” participants will have the opportunity to interview members of their communities about “plants and water knowledge.” Student reflections and findings will help launch an international public awareness campaign.

How well informed is the public about plants and water?  Think up three engaging questions about this subject and use them to interview at least 10 people from your community.  They could be your friends, family, neighbors or teachers.  Document their responses in video, audio or written format and write a review examining any misconceptions they might have.  We then want to know what your ideas are for challenging or correcting them!

Please review the Global Competition and Global Showcase FAQs and contact us for more information or to participate.
