Sol Hirsch Education Fund Grants are awarded annually to teachers/educators of grades K-12 to help improve the education of their students, school and/or community in the science of meteorology. Grants are intended to allow teachers to (1) purchase scientific materials and / or equipment for the classroom, school or community, (2) begin new school and / or community science outreach and education programs, (3) enhance and / or expand existing meteorology / science education programs, (4) attend accredited courses, workshops and /or conferences related to meteorology that will significantly enhance their teaching activities. Teachers, program directors, school district supervisors, and other individuals or groups working to improve the education of K-12 students in meteorology are eligible to apply. Award Ceiling: $750.

The Island Press and Society for Ecological Conservation are holding a Student Video Contest with a $500 scholarship for individuals or teams of up to four people. Students must initiate, facilitate, or participate in an ecological restoration project and create explanatory videos. Deadline: September 1, 2013 |

The goal of Slow Food Miami’s Edible Garden Program is to create student–centered organic vegetable gardens and to introduce students to the pleasures of good, clean food and to teach basic garden skills. With the combination of a garden grant, installation support, school incorporated curriculums and volunteer follow up, Slow Food Miami seeks to develop improved nutritional practices, plant-to-food awareness, and an understanding of sustainable environmental processes.
