There are thousands of photography applications developed for the iPhone, but how do you know which ones to buy and how to use them? Join us as we explore this limitless new form of photography. More than just a device to take a snapshot, the iPhone is a powerful, artistic tool. It is like having a camera and darkroom in your pocket. You will explore fun and easy ways to capture and process images with your iPhone then create unique and artistic images; you will find that photos you have on your iPhone will become your personal masterpieces. Most of the applications (apps) you’ll discover during this class cost less than a latte from your local coffee shop. You will learn about the popular Hipstamatic application with its growing choices of lens, film and flash combinations. You will learn how to adjust your images in various applications. You will also learn how to achieve different effects using filters from a variety of apps and how to blend those images. You will learn how to save the images in your camera/phone in high resolution for high quality printing outside the class. There is no need to have a computer for this class since all the processing is done on the iPhone. Time will be spent capturing images in the garden and processing the images in the classroom while learning how to use various applications. Students are required to have an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S with an active iTunes account.

In this class you will explore the properties of additional apps to enhance your iPhone photos to create artistic statements with your creations. You will learn how to blend images created within different apps. You will learn more about HDR (high dynamic range) which gives images depth of color and light. You will learn how to stitch several photos together to create one. An introduction to drawing and painting apps, which can give detail or a painterly look to your photos, will also be taught. Artists can push these drawing and painting apps further on their own and use them to sketch or conceptualize their photos for future paintings or drawings. Time will be spent capturing images in the garden and then experimenting with different apps in the classroom. Students are required to have an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S with an active iTunes account.

This is an overview of several different artistic apps, including drawing, watercolor, oil, pen and ink, pastel and painterly applications, designed for the iPhone and iPad. Learn how to manipulate photos using apps that will assist the studio artist in conceptualizing and visualizing an artistic masterpiece on paper or canvas.
