Family Fun in the Garden

MENTORING TODDLERS IN THE GARDEN
Mary Keppler

Calling all grandparents! Would you like to get your children/grandchildren excited about Mother Nature and gardening? Come and let Fairchild’s Mary Keppler teach you how to spark that enthusiasm in toddlers (ages 1 to 4). After a story time introduction, parents, grandparents and toddlers will venture out into the Garden to explore, gather herbs and collect natural objects. Back in the classroom, you will make and enjoy a salsa snack using the herbs you have gathered. Then you will craft a placemat from the other natural objects you collected on your Garden journey. I think you’ll agree that it’s a lovely way to spend an entertaining morning with your grandchildren as they learn to embrace the world around us all. Please note that each parent or grandparent can bring two toddlers.

GO FLY A KITE: IT’S A FAMILY AFFAIR
Laura Tellez

Join education staff member, Laura Tellez, for a family class at the Garden. Connect with your creative side when you make your own nature-themed kite. You will use some recycled materials as you learn how easy it is to repurpose those everyday recyclable materials into a beautiful kite. Then you will have a story time to learn how different plants and animals use the wind to travel to many different places. At the end of your class, you will head way down to the lowlands to let your kites take flight (weather permitting). This activity has limited seating.
