Chapungu Stone Carving Workshops

ART AT FAIRCHILD 2013 FEATURES CHAPUNGU: CUSTOM AND LEGEND, A CULTURE IN STONE

This installation features more than 80 stone sculptures, some reaching 11 feet tall and weighing up to three tons, grouped in themed sections throughout the Garden. Crafted by artists of the Shona tribe of Zimbabwe, these sculptures depict culture and way of life of the Zimbabwean people. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to work with the famous stone sculptors and master carvers from Zimbabwe and the Chapungu exhibit. You will be supplied with your own stone from Africa, tools and training to create your own masterpiece. Lunch each day is on your own, so please bring refreshments for the day and dress appropriately for the weather. Note: Artists are subject to change.
