Fields of Interest & Roles in Research Department:
- Management of Fairchild Herbarium.
- Supervision and training of 40 volunteers who contribute 2,400 hours annually.
- Accession ca. 3,500 new specimens annually.
- Request, receive, and send out herbarium loans for taxonomic study.
- Distribute duplicate specimens through continuing exchange programs with other herbaria.
- Documentation with herbarium vouchers of the four research programs: South Florida Plants & Environments, Caribbean Biodiversity, Palm Biology, Tropical Fruit.
Current Projects:
- Initiate and develop original Access pilot database of the herbarium, beginning with cycads.
- Catalog more than 2,000 original botanical illustrations into herbarium archives; ready fern & gymnosperm illustrations for Volume 1, Flora of Florida.
- Develop herbarium policy documents and record collections use logs for grant proposals.
- Expand accession format to include taxa and distribution data.
- Establish Fairchild Herbarium as the authoritative repository for South Florida plants.

Professional and Service Activities:
- Instruct university classes on herbarium use and policy.
- Share inventory and taxonomic accession information to include in the Atlas of Florida.
- Welcome and assist visitors, staff, scientists, students to investigate the Fairchild collections; provide identification service.
- Continue education by attending university classes and seminars.
