 Career History

2003- present,  Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Librarian/Archivist: Manage and maintain the organization’s historic archive containing twelve collections, the lending library for members, and the research library.

 

1998-2003,  NJK Associates, Homestead, FL                                                                   

2001-present   Miami-Dade Public Library System, Cutler Ridge, FL, Part time Librarian - Provide basic reference services in adult reference services division.  Also responsible for collection development for portions of the adult collection and circulation services when needed.  Have also worked at smaller branch libraries to support staffing shortages.  

1993-1998,  Rockwell Automation, Milwaukee, WI, Manager, Strategic Information Center - Responsible for bringing external business and technical information into the corporation and making it available at the desktop.  Created automated information and intelligence services to support strategy planning and business operations.

  • Developed and implemented 5 year plan to bring competitive and external research information into Rockwell Automation. 
  • Incorporated external intelligence into the strategy planning and product engineering processes within the corporation.
  • Worked with executive “Horizon” committee to provide long-range planning and guidance to the company.

1986-1993,  Digital Equipment Corporation, Acton, MA and Merrimack, NH,Marketing Consultant/Manager - Started as market research and information specialist, became manager of internal research consulting group (Customized Research Services). 

  • Provided research and consulting services to a number of Digital’s product and marketing groups, including the components, database software, and telecommunications groups.  Used market and product analysis to drive business decisions and plans.
  • Managed a group of ten research consultants within Digital.  Planned and forecast budget of about $750K/year, met with clients to determine project needs, scheduled and assigned research projects, ensured timely delivery of research within budget, and developed group long-range plans.
  • Market Analyst, Personal Computer Group - Was responsible for establishing a competitive intelligence and market research function within the Personal Computer marketing group.
  • Started and managed a CI function within Digital’s PC marketing group.
  • Responsible for all data input and analysis for personal computer pricing decisions.
  • Developed methodology and implemented process to track PC competitors and used information for product development.

1985-1986, Honeywell Information Systems, Billerica, MA, Information Manager/Branch Manager - Managed the information library in support of the Billerica business and engineering operations.

1979-1985,  Nashua Public Library, Nashua, NH, Business Research Manager – Managed the Business Reference Library for the city public library.

1978-1979, Duracell Battery Company, Burlington, MA, Research Librarian – Provided reference and research for 100+ research scientists in Duracell’s advanced technology research labs.

Volunteer and Additional Experience

2002-present, Biscayne National Park, Staff information desk for the park, answering questions and providing information about the Park’s resources and environment.  In tourist season, oversee Boca Chita lighthouse, allowing tourists access to the lighthouse and giving tours when needed.

1979-1983,  Islesford Ferry Co. – Acadia National Park                                                               

Part-owner of 49 passenger tour boat offering sightseeing tours of islands off Mt. Desert Island.  Helped operate boat as mate, and provided narration on tours during the weekends.
