Fairchild's GardenMusic Festival
Fairchild's GardenMusic Festival

When: Saturday, March 24, 2012 - Sunday, April 1, 2012

The mission of Fairchild GardenMusic is to bring the highest-quality and most exciting chamber music to South Florida, to create a powerfully immersive experience for visitors to Fairchild that will connect music with the garden space and other artistic disciplines to foster the collaborative and creative spirit between musicians and artists in other genres, and to provide engaging and stimulating educational opportunities for young people at Fairchild.

GardenMusic’s educational and musical programs were developed by Teddy Abrams, Harrison Hollingsworth and Johnny Teyssier, the members of the Sixth Floor Trio, who met while studying at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Throughout the Festival week, visitors to Fairchild will be treated to chamber music through open, outdoor rehearsals and "surprise" concerts during the day. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet and engage the musicians, experiencing music on an intimate and personal level. The subscription concerts will allow for a more traditional chamber music experience surrounded by the beauty of Fairchild.

Subscription Concert Dates:

Opening Gala, Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.
The Opening Concert will primarily feature the Sixth Floor Trio, but will also introduce the Artists who will already be in residence at GardenMusic. There will be a gala dinner following this performance (dinner price information coming soon). The repertoire will range from Brahms to bluegrass, original compositions to rock covers, klezmer to a West Side Story medley.

History of Music, Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.
The second subscription performance, on Wednesday, March 28th, is called "The History of Chamber Music." In creating this program, Artistic Directors the Sixth Floor Trio wove together a seamless thread of works tracing the origins of this genre from the earliest folk and church music through the major core eras and closing with the 21st century. This program will build a very beautiful and powerful arc built on small tastes of many different styles and flavors (a sort of tasting menu!). Repertoire includes arrangements of ancient choral and Renaissance dance music, Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Debussy, Shostakovich, Barber and more!

Late night Mingle event! Following the performance on March 28th, Resident Artists the Jordan Tice Trio will provide about an hour of music to enjoy while you sip a cocktail from the cash bar.

Collaborations, Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.
The Collaborations concert, on Thursday, March 29th, will feature joint presentations with several talented Miami artists from City Theatre, the Miami Ballet, filmmakers from the Miami International Film Festival, and a poet from the O, Miami Poetry Festival. The program will finish with a fully-staged version of Stravinsky's dramatic masterpiece "L'Histoire du Soldat."

Finale/Celebration, Sunday, April 1, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.
On Sunday, April 1st, GardenMusic will close with Celebration, the final performance of the 2012 Festival. This evening will include several epic and exciting works including the Schumann Piano Quartet, Schoenfield's Cafe Music, and the “Sixth Floor" septet by the Festival’s own Teddy Abrams.
