Creating a Visual Legacy: New Public Art in Miami-Dade County

Throughout the course of its thirty-eight year history, Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places has implemented some of the most inventive and inspired works of public art in theUnited States. A national leader in the field, the program consistently commissions works of art that capture the spirit of our community and endow its public spaces with meaningful experiences.

With over twenty projects slated to open over the next two years, the program is aggressively pursuing ways to add dimension to our built environment. This lecture will provide a comprehensive overview of the new places and new artists who are enriching our public realm and in the process, defining the next era of public art. Highly ambitious and complexly integrated, these artworks are sited at various public spaces that include the Miami International Airport, Miami Intermodal Center, the Children's Courthouse, Miami Marlins Stadium, Jackson South Community Hospital, South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center, Miami-Dade Homeless Trust Verde Gardens, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Headquarters, the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, Zoo Miami and multiple municipal facilities.
