Mango Flavors Type:  For the Love of Mangoes by Noris Ledesma, Curator of Tropical Fruit, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

Flavor is an issue for mangos, depending on the variety, growing conditions, post harvest factors, soil type, nutritional status of the tree, and other climatic factors.  Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has an ongoing improvement program that is based on 15 years of collecting cultivars with more than 400 commercial cultivars of mangos. A concerted selection and research effort was directed towards cultivar classifications according with a flavor type.
