Ramble has a very special plant sale

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

The 2008 Ramble will be the 35th Ramble I've worked at and enjoyed since I began working at FTBG in 1973.  In my first years here, when the Ramble was more of a rummage sale, with old clothes, furniture, and other "recycled" merchandise, only Fairchild-grown plants were sold.  Beginning in 1980, with the new, gardening-focused Ramble, various plant societies began participating in the plant sale.  Now the plant sale area in the palmetum is filled with plants grown and brought in by 14 plant societies.  These societies will be offering plants at the Ramble:

American Bamboo Society

American Bougainvillea Society, Inc.

Bromeliad Society of South Florida

South Florida Cactus & Succulent Society

Tropical Fern & Exotic Plant Society, Inc.

Rare Fruit Council International

Gifford Arboretum

Heliconia Society of South Florida

Horticulture Study Society

Dade Chapter - Florida Native Plant Society

Orchid Society of Coral Gables

South Florida Palm Society

Tropical Flowering Tree Society

Master Gardeners will be available to answer your gardening questions.

Each of the societies have expert growers who are very experienced and are happy to share their knowledge and offer advice.  Even if, Heaven forbid, you might not feel a need to purchase another plant for your yard, visit the plant sale area and ask the experts any gardening questions you may have.  If you have a plant you want identified or an insect or disease problem on a plant, bring in a sample, in a sealed plastic bag and visit the Master Gardeners booth or the individual plant societies.  Several Fairchild horticulture staff will be on hand in the FTBG sale plant area to help answer your questions and select the perfect plant for your garden.  There is no other sale in South Florida that has as many plant societies, their expert members, and Fairchild plants and staff all in one location.  The Ramble is really a fun event with great food, music and other entertainment, interesting booths and vendors in a most beautiful location - Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.  Come, enjoy, relax, and breathe in the beauty of Fairchild, the most wonderful place in Florida!

The 2008 Ramble will take place this weekend, November 8-9, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.
