Art at Fairchild is proud to host an opening reception for Second Nature in the Arts Center on Saturday, July 23 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Lehr will present her exhibition at 10:00 a.m. with a book signing and opportunity to meet the artist afterward.

Mira Lehr is a New York-born, Miami-based multimedia artist whose career spans four decades. After graduating from Vassar College with a degree in Art History, she studied painting with artists of the New York School such as Robert Motherwell. She was instrumental in mobilizing the female voice in abstract expressionist art and co-founded the Continuum Gallery, one of the first women’s co-op galleries in the southeast. She has served as a mentor to emerging artists and has taught master classes with the National YoungArts Foundation. Her work has been on view in more than 300 exhibitions and installations including the Bass Museum of Art, Perez Art Museum Miami, the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, The New Museum, and the Getty Museum Research Center. She is represented by the Flomenhaft Gallery in New York and Rosenbaum Contemporary in Boca Raton, FL.

Second Nature uses non-traditional materials including burnt fuse lines, resin, Japanese paper, and dyes to highlight the ephemeral qualities of nature and to portray its less tangible and more enigmatic nuances. Lehr hopes to take her viewers on an exploratory meditative journey through the fragile and powerful qualities of the natural world. The exhibition also responds to South Florida’s unique landscapes and complex relationships to human and natural forces. The visual narratives depict roots and blooming organic forms, creating a statement about the fragility of living things and their temporal nature.
