Cacao Display at Fairchild’s International Chocolate Festival

INDULGE YOUR TASTE BUDS AT FAIRCHILD’S
INTERNATIONAL CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

Coral Gables, FL, January 9, 2015 – “Cacao” is the word on the tip of everyone’s tongue at the 9th Annual International Chocolate Festival at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Enjoy three days of delicious activities complete with sampling, cooking demos, educational talks, and kids’ events from Friday, January 23 – Sunday, January 25, 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

New this year is the “Living History of Cacao and Chocolate” exhibit where visitors can watch the process that turns cacao pods into the chocolate found in delicious desserts. Fairchild’s curators of tropical fruit, chefs, scientists, and chocolatiers will take you through the world of Theobroma cacao and its rich history with an interactive cacao display. Join Dr. Maricel Presilla, author of “The New Taste of Chocolate,” to learn how chocolate is made using traditional Mesoamerican techniques. The flavors of Ecuador will be highlighted with an educational chocolate tasting by Pacari Chocolate.

Ever wondered how chocolate grows? Step into the Tropical Fruit Pavilion and one of the U.S.’s only outdoor tropical rainforest exhibits to see real cacao pods growing on trees collected from Latin America. Be sure to take in the lovely aroma of the chocolate-scented ‘Sharry Baby’ orchids planted throughout the Garden, which are also available for purchase.

The Chocolate Festival wouldn’t be complete without delectable treats. Artisan chocolatiers will dish out samples of their best chocolates available for purchase. Get inspired by chocolate poetry recited by students from W.R. Thomas Middle School before the Saturday cooking demos from celebrated chefs showing recipes for the most delicious chocolate dishes right on time for Valentine’s Day. For guests over 21, the Beer Sampling Garden is the place to discover unique brews that pair well with chocolate.

During the festival and through May 31, 2015, glass art by world-renowned American artist Dale Chihuly will be exhibited throughout all 83 acres as part of the annual Art at Fairchild. Take a walk through the Garden and see the large-scale glass sculptures among tropical plants, in lily pools, and through bright vistas.

The International Chocolate Festival is sponsored by Whole Foods Market, the Mexico Tourism Board, Nestlé Nesquik Miami, and New York Life Insurance Co.
