Carl Lewis, Ph.D., Fairchild Director
Long Ago in the Great East

In 1940, at the end of his final major expedition, David Fairchild predicted that the islands of Southeast Asia would be forever changed by the approaching war. Although the region has endured decades of violent political, economic, and environmental upheavals, we find that its cultural and biological diversity are surprisingly resilient. Many of the region’s islands remain unexplored and hold a wealth of plants to be discovered.

Join us for on select evenings from December to May for a formative lecture series on art, conservation and travel from Fairchild experts and renowned authors. All lectures are held in the Lakeside Marquee. Light refreshments will be served. View the complete list of lectures here.
