CHIHULY EXHIBITION OPENS AT FAIRCHILD TROPICAL BOTANIC GARDEN
Coral Gables, FL, December 1, 2014 – Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is pleased to announce the opening of American artist Dale Chihuly’s most comprehensive garden exhibition to date in Miami as part of Art at Fairchild, the seasonal program that invites international artists to display their works throughout the 83-acre tropical oasis. Chihuly’s magnificent works of art are installed throughout many of the Garden exhibits, including the lush Rainforest, picturesque Bailey Palm Glade Vista, and the new Wings of the Tropics exhibit, where they are surrounded by hundreds of colorful and exotic butterflies. The exhibition will be on view from December 6, 2014 – May 31, 2015. Special art viewings and events will be held during this time to celebrate the synthesis of art and nature.
The exhibition kicks off with a Panel Discussion and Book Signing on Saturday, December 6 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Garden writer Tim Richardson, architect Alberto Alfonso, curator Kate Brown, and art writer David Ebony will participate in the panel titled “At the Intersection of Art and Landscape.” Immediately following will be a book signing with artist Dale Chihuly. Books are available for purchase at Fairchild.
The new Adam R. Rose and Peter R. McQuillan Arts Center officially opens on December 6 and will house the Chihuly Gallery during the 2014-15 Art at Fairchild season. The 3,000-square-foot, beautifully landscaped facility is the place to purchase a wonderful selection of Studio Editions, limited edition prints, books, and other Chihuly-related merchandise. Store hours are 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and weekends and 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. during Tropical Chihuly Nights.
Tropical Chihuly Nights invite visitors to view illuminated art under the stars of the South Florida sky while strolling the Garden in the moonlight. Fairchild will open on Thursday and Sunday nights from 6:00-9:00 p.m. beginning Thursday, December 11, 2014 and ending Sunday, May 31, 2015 (excluding December 25 and festival weekends). Guests can dine in the Glasshouse Café or have a picnic while watching the moon rise.
Tram tours and walking tours are included with the price of admission and offer visitors an excellent overview of art in the Garden. Themed walking tours are held at various times during weekdays and weekends. Narrated tram tours last 45 minutes and are held every hour on the hour from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on weekends.
